The viniculture in Madrid is not well known, the winemaking in this region was introduced by Romans, however the first document of wine production is from the 13th century. Nowadays, in the surroundings of Madrid, there are three wine regions Arganda, Navalcarnero and San Martín all with its distinct climate and grapes.
Less than an hour from Madrid you have never-ending vineyards; Casa Del Valle is a unique wine estate near the monumental village of Yepes, near Toledo. During the visit of this winery, it is possible to discover the traditional and ancient techniques that are used in the production of wine. As well as, a visit to their vineyards, which cover 250 hectares, and finishing the visit with a collection of homemade wines. Moreover Casa Del Valle is also a venue, the facilities keep the traditional rural architecture, surrounded by gardens, open patios, a large arcaded courtyard and majestic locations for an event, such as the presentation and launch of new products. Activities for incentive groups are also organized here, from a team wine tasting to the creation of their own wine in teams.
A more original and exclusive wine estate in Aranjuez near Madrid wine region, Bodega Real Cortijo de Carlos III is what you’re looking for, and it’s the only winery of a royal house in the world. In the 1782 the King SM Carlos III ordered its construction as a wine producer for the Spanish Royal Family. The building has a neoclassical style and an impressive 250 meters long underground wine cellar. Another interesting feature is the preservation of the Queen and the King Vaults, used to store the wine for each of the two monarchs at that time. All together this unique set up with incredible underground galleries, corridors and vaulted arches dating back to 1782, can also be used to host teambuilding activities related to wines or not, company meetings and gala dinners.
The last winery is a former Franciscan Convent in the town of Colmenar de Oreja from the 15th until 19th century. Also has underground galleries, yet the peculiar feature about the winery, is the fact the wine is still made in clay jars for more than 100 years, preserving the ancient technique of wine making.
