Hey everyone! I wanted to share a bit about my job where I get to facilitate leisure groups to know and visit one of the most magical spots in Porto – the Livraria Lello. If you haven’t heard of it, Livraria Lello is a historic bookstore that looks straight out of a fairy tale, and it’s often dubbed one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. It's a must-see if you’re visiting Porto!
 
So, what exactly do I do? Well, I organize visits to this wonderful spot, including a tour guide to give an entire storyteller for the groups we take to the bookstore. We get to share fascinating details about its history, architecture, and the unique vibe that makes this place so special. Plus, there are always new things happening at Livraria Lello, so there’s never a dull moment. One of the latest additions is the interactive digital guide they’ve set up. It’s super cool as it gives visitors a deeper insight into the history and significance of the bookstore. And yes, it's available in multiple languages, which is great for all the international visitors. Another exciting update is the temporary exhibitions they host, these exhibitions showcase rare books and works of art, making each visit a bit different from the last.

On the day of the tour, we make sure everyone knows about these new features so they can get the most out of their visit. We start with a brief history of Livraria Lello, highlighting its origins dating back to 1906 and the fascinating art nouveau design. We always point out the iconic wooden staircase – fun fact, it’s rumored to have inspired parts of the Harry Potter series!

One of the best parts of the job is seeing the reactions my group when they walk in and see the stunning stained-glass ceiling and intricate woodwork for the first time. Their faces light up, and it’s like they’re stepping into another world.

We also give tips on the best photo spots (because everyone needs that perfect Instagram shot, right?) and suggest a few must-see books and hidden gems in the store. And of course, we talk about the bookstore’s role in the literary world, including its connection to famous authors and literary works.

So yeah, that’s a peek into my job! It’s a mix of storytelling, guiding, and sharing the love for one of Porto’s most beloved landmarks. Cheers!
