Avis, Alentejo

About 2 hours from Lisbon, you’ll find a picturesque countryside town called Avis. Composed of narrow streets and white limewashed houses that tell their heritage which entails the invasion of the Moors and strong military past.
 
Avis can be a perfect add-on to a pre- or post-program in Lisbon, for a group of a maximum of 60 people. About 5 minutes from the city center, you have an incredible property called Herdade da Cortesia, a 4-star design hotel with 30 modern décor rooms, infinity pool, restaurant with glass walls offering panoramic views of the garden.

Jumping into town’s history
The best manner to explore Avis is on foot, absorbing the history from its winding streets, if you’re curious about their history start by visiting the convent of Military Order of São Bento de Avis that was recently restored. Then, as you walk around town, you will find three of the castle’s six original towers, as well as sections of medieval walls incorporated into the town’s houses. An incredible viewpoint is from the Queen Tower showcasing a sweeping view of plain, stretching out in front of you.

About 10 minutes from town, you’ll find Maranhão Dam where you can enjoy a range of water sports from rowing, canoeing, windsurfing, fishing, water skiing or swimming. And when the stomach roars, we can provide a picnic by banks or a drink whilst enjoying the sunset.
