Terceira Island

Terceira Island is the third largest of the nine islands, featuring an incredible contrast between the Atlantic dark blue waters and the Island’s typical green fields, locally known as “cerrados” separated from each other by volcanic stone walls. Terceira Mar Hotel

Activities
The interior of the island is fulfilled with patchwork fields crisscrossing the landscape, and home to incredible sites such as:
1) Algar do Carvão, a 90-meter-deep volcanic chimney formed approximately 3.200 years ago that you can walk inside to see the one of the world’s largest stalactites, classified as Regional Natural Monument.
2) Gruta do Natal, a cave consisting of a lava tube and its passages are beyond fascinating, with the walls, ground and ceiling having different colors and shapes.
3) Furnas do Enxofre, a landscape filled with fumaroles, surrounded by a red soil contrasting the green field and the peculiar smell of sulfur.The immense blue sea is home to whales and dolphins, possible to organize boat trips to watch these animals from a distance, finishing with a snorkeling at fascinating Cabras Islets.

For those with a foodie vein, you must-do a tasting of the islands produced cheese at Queijo da Vaquinha factory. Or taste the unique Verdelho wine at Biscoitos Wine Museum, a characteristic wine from the Azores with distinct harvesting and production.

Restaurants
Quinta do Martelo: a traditional restaurant with the softest and tastiest rump steaks on the Terceira Island. The estate also ethnographic museum, recreating the rural ambience of the island.
Tasca das Tias: a cozy restaurant with a modern décor in the center of town, known for their delicious local delicacies in small portions, allowing you to taste various plates from the menu.
