For any beach, the Blue Flag is the highest award that it can have. An honour that less only 40 countries in the world, in all continents, have it, and among those there are the undoubtedly “kings” of the beaches.
This is the case of Spain, ranked number 1 since 1994, and no one has managed to unseat it. Presently, 15% of its beaches have the blue mast, a total of 621, with the Valencian Community and Andalusia being the two communities with the most awards. Other countries with a large number of blue flags are France (498), Turkey (442), Greece (440), Italy (359), and Portugal (332).
To obtain a blue flag, a municipality must guarantee the quality of the water with periodic samples, maintain the cleanliness of the beach, as well as a safe and accessible access, lifeguard supervision and first AIDS medical assistance .
Therefore those beaches offers the perfect and safe environment for group games and activities or to simply enjoy an incredible meals in nearby restaurants, which would the case of Malagueta beach in Malaga, Malvarrosa beach in Valencia or the several local beaches of Barcelona.
