Our first suggested stop will be Lagos, the home of Henry the Navigator. Nowadays, its ancient maze of cobbled streets bustles with restaurants and bars. One of the most typical restaurants is Camilo, opened its doors in 1980, since then they’ve been serving regional dishes of fresh fish and local products. The concept was mainly due to the strong relationship of the owners with the land and sea. It was fully refurnished in 2011 to a modern architecture and design, still conserving its original menu, but now offering incredible views over Lagos. A more casual option in Lagos is Bahia Beach Bar located on the sand of Meia beach, serving a gourmet dining such as poultry pie with foie gras or lobster and cod terrine. Normally during the weekends there’s live music, which you can appreciate over a glass of Algarve or Alentejo Wine or its famous homemade sangria.
Heading to Sagres, known for the spectacular Cape of St. Vincente and the most south-westerly point in Continental Europe. The picturesque town has a unique Pousada de Sagres with unadulterated contact with nature in their purest states, giving the Pousada of Sagres a rustic appeal. Its restaurant called a “journey to the flavors” perfectly describes your dining experience here. You’ll taste excellent regional cuisine, but also the gastronomical excellency of other Portuguese regions.
Among the mountains of Monchique is the location of a restaurant that’s an ancient casino called 1692. A mist of modernity mixed with stained glass windows from the 19th century, is a detail, that makes the restaurant a must-see. It offers a cosmopolitan and welcoming atmosphere, during the summer the terrace is the main stage for pleasant gatherings, for either lunch, dinner or a happy hour sunset cocktail.
