Gastronomical Experience In Vitoria-Gasteiz

Basque Countries

Vitoria-Gasteiz is perhaps the less known of the Basque Country cities, although it has its own airport, most people enter through Bilbao International Airport, which is less than 1 hour from Vitoria-Gasteiz. Therefore, it’s an excellent option for a combined trip between Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz.

The prestigious National Geographic magazine has chosen Vitoria-Gasteiz along with 24 other world destinations as ‘Best of the World 2021’. These destinations are described as "timeless places that will define our future itineraries." Specifically for Vitoria-Gasteiz, they emphasize its glorious past, as a hub of communication between Castile and the rest of Europe, and its repercussion in our days.

Presently, Vitoria-Gasteiz stands out as a cultural destination, essentially for all that the city offers in its historic centre, such as the impressive Gothic Cathedral of Santa María, as well as, the celebration of the International Jazz Festival taking place in July, which yearly tradition goes back to 1977 – reuniting artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz and Jamie Cullum.  Vitoria-Gasteiz is also a benchmark in sustainable destinations, being recognised in 2012, as European Green Capital.

In terms of activities our clients can enjoy a tapas and pintxos tour, since the fame of Basque gastronomy is internationally known. The city has one of the largest green rings in Europe, an excellent option to enjoy a pleasant bike ride through the parks of the city. Along with a walk across the historic centre, where the Cathedral, Plaza de la Virgen Blanca and Plaza España stand out.

In addition, within the province of Álava, where this city is located, we recommend a visit to a region called “La Rioja Alavesa”, internationally famous for the production of Rioja Red Wine. Not only, will visitors be amazed by the number of hectares of vineyards, as well as, for the quality of their wines. But some wineries have acquired an architectural relevance, being another add-on to visit this region, such as the Marqués de Riscal Winery or the Ysios Winery. Within these wineries, various types of wine tasting can be organized, as well as, group lunches or gala dinners, turning them into versatile spaces of great relevance and originality.
