El Rompido, the small fishing village where our colleague Jesús Pazos has spent his summers, remains a charming place, despite attracting more and more visitors. While tourism is growing, El Rompido still maintains that authentic fishing village essence that Jesús loves so much. One of his favorite moments is taking his boat out of the harbor and cruising along the Río Piedras, enjoying the tranquillity of the water and disconnecting from everything.
The last weekend of July, the local fair is another special time of the year for Jesús. The village fills with life, music, and joy, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than by dancing in the streets with friends. Additionally, the procession of the Virgen del Carmen is a unique tradition: the Virgin, placed on a boat, is followed by all the town’s boats along the estuary, creating an atmosphere of devotion and celebration that unites everyone.
As for the food, Jesús loves enjoying fresh coquinas or prawns at Doña Gamba or having tapas at La Choza. El Rompido also offers excellent opportunities for hiking or cycling through the San Miguel marshes. And of course, a good swim in the estuary is a must, even if he ends up covered in mud, it’s part of the tradition!
Although El Rompido doesn’t have a beach as such, its sandy spit, more than 12 kilometers long, is unique along the Andalusian coastline. For Jesús, this village remains the perfect place to enjoy the calm of the sea, nature, and that authentic atmosphere. He never gets tired of calling this place his home and, of course, invites everyone reading this to visit El Rompido and discover what makes it so special.
