Santa Maria is commonly referred to as the Sunny Island of the Azores, due to its geographically position is has a warmer weather than any other sister islands. Santa Maria island is a mere 20 minutes by plane from São Miguel, and 02 hours by ferry, being a perfect add-on to your trip to unveil the Azores. The volcanoes that first formed Santa Maria have had time to erode into pleasant rolling hills with green pastures, yellow crops or dark ochre soils, endless combinations of colorful flowers, white-washed houses by secluded bays and dramatic sea cliffs.
Terceira Island is the third largest of the nine islands, featuring an incredible contrast between the Atlantic dark blue waters and the Island’s typical green fields, locally known as “cerrados” separated from each other by volcanic stone walls. This scenario is perfectly seen from the viewpoint of Serra do Cume at an altitude of 545 meters. The island is also known as the lilac island, due to its abundance of blue and purple hydrangeas, and its historical center has also distinct colorful buildings where lilac predominates.
Pico is the second largest island in the Azores, named after its mountain, considered Portugal’s highest mountain, at 2,351m above sea level - it’s been classified as Nature Reserve since 1982. The mighty mountain is always visible, whether it sits behind the morning fog or stands out with its perfect cone shape emerging from the dark blue Ocean waters Ocean, against the fiery sky during sunset.
It can be said that Toledo is one of Spain's most dazzling cities, carefully positioned atop a valley overlooking the Tagus River. It’s also known as the ‘city of the three cultures’, a place where (legend has it) Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities peacefully co-inhabited over the centuries. In fact, this World Heritage city is considered by many travellers as the Jerusalem of Western Europe.
