The prestigious Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2021 celebrates the best places on earth, from wilderness retreats or urban hotels, to Mediterranean villages and destination spas in Asia.
In 2021 edition, more than 800 thousand readers submitted dozens of scores and comments about their travel experiences in the best hotels, resorts, cities, countries, islands, spas, trains, car rentals, luggage, airlines, airports and cruises. The results of the 2021 awards represent the best experiences that Condé Nast Traveler readers have had the opportunity to enjoy and which they want to repeat.
In this atypical year, which has reduced the volume of travel and the number of stays, this year's awards also reflect the way in which the tourism “world” has reacted, showed confidence and security, and received travelers maintaining high standards. Portugal thrived in three distinct categories:
- Best Country in the World – Portugal is in first place.
- The Best Hotel in the World – São Lourenço do Barrocal in the Alentejo region, won the best hotel in the Iberian Peninsula.
- The Best Islands in the World – In the European category, Madeira Island in Portugal came in fourth place.
